Josh and Mariah’s elopement in the Redwoods was every bit as magical and whimsical as it sounds. From the very first line of their inquiry, I just knew they were my kind of people—“Wes Anderson vibes meets frolicking around like forest fairies.” I mean… say less.
These two fell in love in Salt Lake City and now call the Pacific Northwest home, which made a coastal redwood elopement feel both adventurous and meaningful. We spent the day hopping between towering forests, ocean cliffs, and charming coastal moments—all while capturing it on digital, 35mm, medium format, and Super 8 film.
We started their day at the sweetest Airbnb tucked away in Brookings, Oregon. It overlooked the Chetco River and had the dreamiest deck for a first look—just the two of them, the sound of the river (and some musical birds) below, and all the anticipation buzzing in the air. After their first look and a few portraits surrounded by forest-y goodness, we headed to the Organ Donor Trailhead (yes, that’s really what it’s called!) for their ceremony. The trail winds through some of the most enchanting redwood groves, while still being easily accessible, and it made the perfect backdrop for private vows and becoming husband and wife.
Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park is unlike anywhere else. The air feels different—soft, sacred, quiet. Sunlight filters through towering redwoods in these long, romantic beams that make you feel like you’ve stepped into another world entirely. It’s a place that slows you down, makes you breathe deeper, and reminds you what matters.
Pair that with Brookings’ wild coastal views and charming small-town energy, and you’ve got the best of both worlds—forest fairytale meets Oregon coast adventure. It’s truly one of the most intimate, awe-inspiring places you can choose for your elopement.
After their ceremony, we wandered the fern-lined paths for portraits that felt straight out of a vintage storybook. Then we made our way deeper into the national forest to Simpson Reed Trail, where they had their first dance under the trees (cue the Wes Anderson soundtrack vibes).
We wrapped up our forest adventure with a cozy dinner in Brookings, a cake-cutting break back at the Airbnb (they had the most stunning Lambeth-style wedding cake), and then chased golden hour down to Secret Beach for champagne, toasts, and jaw-dropping coastal views. As the sun dipped low, we ended our day at another stunning local beach, sipping champagne and soaking in that glowing Pacific Northwest sunset. I’ll never forget how tiny they looked standing in front of those massive sea stacks—my favorite photo to get: little people, big landscape magic.
Alongside their digital gallery, I also shot a nostalgic, emotional Super 8 film of their day—from slow morning writing their vows to popping champagne on the cliffs. Super 8 is such a beautiful way to remember how your wedding felt—the movement, the wind in the trees, the laughter. Formats like super 8 captures moments in a way that feels raw and real, with all the cozy imperfections that make it so you.
